Recent initiatives to encourage and develop the performance and enjoyment of music have given a fillip to work already taking place. Such innovations have stories to tell of why, when, how and to what effect. Practitioners also have personal perspectives on such innovations.
For some time, Martin Maris, Head of Community and Education and Project Manager of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, has been devising and implementing such innovations regionally and nationally, from the BBC ‘Blue Peter Prom’, live music in supermarkets, opera in pubs, musical murder-mysteries, combined brass band and dance projects lasting many weeks to simple music workshops for Parbold’s schools and community groups.
In addition, Sally Smith, Making Music’s own North West Development Officer, has a narrative about her first year putting into practice her innovative brief for NW members.
Sally will lead the session as a series of accounts and as a general forum for participants’ own accounts and questions.
